BIBLE READING MARATHON CONTINUES ON CAPITOL HILL

All kinds of people have been taking their turn at the Bible-shaped podium on the west lawn of the U-S Capitol.

Schoolchildren, preachers and members of Congress are among the volunteers at this week's round-the-clock reading of the Bible from start to finish.

Organizers say they recruited Kansas Senator Sam Brownback to read for a few minutes when they saw him jogging by. And a Women's Aglow group from the Washington suburbs volunteered to read the extended genealogies -- nine daunting chapters of who begat who -- from the Old Testament book of First Chronicles.

The volunteers started Monday and will read the Bible's last Amen on Thursday -- the National Day of Prayer.
