Commissioners Fight Back

Two Smith County Commissioners accuse the District Attorney of doing a huge disservice to the community. Sharon Emmert met with the press today to defend a private meeting with a company who provides jail services.

She and Commissioner Frank Sawyer claim an investigation by the DA's office is unwarranted.

Emmert said "If you don't leave here today with anything else I want you to leave with this: two commissioners can have a private meeting with private citizens anywhere at anytime for the sole purpose of gathering information this is not illegal nor is it inappropriate."

District Attorney Jack Skeen said today he would not be deterred by press releases and media events from carrying out his responsibility in this investigation.  Skeen says there has been no disservice to the community by conducting an investigation into the facts and he says his work is not over yet.
