Highway's Sign Bridge Probably Won't Be Replaced

TxDOT says they probably won't be replacing the sign bridge damaged in Monday morning's crash. Tuesday, the sign bridge is in pieces, laying on the side of Highway 271.  Crews had to use a crane to lift it up and then move it off the roadway. Tuesday morning TxDOT told us the bridge will probably be replaced with a ground-mounted sign because it's less expensive.

"It would be just like any other sign that you would see on the side of the road, it would probably give you a lane diagram that would say 'Left Lane State Highway 155, 271 Straight'," says Larry Krantz with TxDOT. "If it turns out we're confusing traffic more with a ground-mounted sign we'll certainly look at putting it [a sign bridge] back."

The sign bridge was damaged when an 18 wheeler overturned and crashed into the base, pushing it about six feet off it's foundation.
