Whitehouse Couple Honored as Mr. and Mrs. Yesteryear

Elmer and Nelda Stanley have been married for 53 years and were just named Whitehouse's Mr. and Mrs. Yesteryear 2002.

Along with a plaque, the pair got an official proclamation from the Mayor of Whitehouse and a party Sunday afternoon.

The Stanleys will be even busier when the Yesteryear Festival kicks off the third weekend in June.

In its twentieth year, the festival is still going strong.  Each year a Yesteryear board selects an honorary couple after Whitehouse residents place their nominations.

The Stanley's say they're looking forward to the Yesteryear Carnation Ball because they can't remember the last time they danced together.

The couple has 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Though they say the 1940's were their favorite decade and the joy of being Mr. and Mrs. Yesteryear almost compares to the roaring big bands of the World War II Generation.

"It's been fun," said Nelda Stanley. "It's just been a great time to have all our friends and relatives here to enjoy this with us."

The Yesteryear festival will also have a parade and pageant.
