Hit And Run Chase Suspect Has Criminal History

Public records show a long list of criminal activity, dating as far back as 1985. They include a D.W.I this past April and two convictions of "Delivery of a Controlled Substance."

After Thursday night's dangerous chase, police say 46-year old Robert Kassube of Tyler now faces charges of evading arrest, driving while intoxicated, and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say after rear-ending a carpet installer's truck, Kassube fled the scene Thursday night. An officer witnessed the accident and chased him, but Kassube escaped arrest several times, leading police on a nearly 20-minute-long pursuit around Tyler. Officers finally used spike strips and a taser to get Kassube into custody at Paluxy and Loop 323.

The most serious offense is the "Evading Arrest," which is a state jail felony. Police say the controlled substance found in his truck, were 83 Xanax pills. Kassube is being held in the Smith County Jail.
