Journalism Advisor's Debate with UT-Tyler Far From Over

A UT Tyler journalism advisor now has the society of professional journalists probing on her behalf.

Vanessa Curry beleives UT administrators did not renew her contract because they found her students' use of open records requests was too aggressive.

The society said today they would organize a task force of East Texas journalists to investigate UT's decision.

"It's really comforting to know an organization as large and as prestigious as the SPJ is taking this issue seriously," says Vanessa Curry.  "And fighting for even someone in Tyler, Texas."

The task force hopes to visit with curry and UT administrators before reporting their findings.  That report will be made public, said Jim Highland with the Society of Professional Journalists.

University administrators have said, the decision not to review Curry's contract has nothing to do with her student's reporting practices.
