Police Warn of Telemarketing Scam in Longview

Police and the Better Business Bureau in Longview are warning people to be on guard for a telemarketing scam involving charities.

Police have received complaints from citizens about calls from volunteers claiming to be raising money for the Longview drug task force, which police say does not exist.

The Better Business Bureau says these types of charity scams are common and play on the good hearts of people.

But receiving a call from someone is the first giveaway.

Experts say that if you are contacted by a questionable charity, you should get the name of the group and never give any financial information over the phone.
