Police Exchange Their Badge for an Apron

Tyler Police and Smith County Sheriff's Deputies exchanged their badges for aprons Thursday night.

The local deputies and cops helped Red Lobster employees serve-up tea and rolls for a good cause. In return for their customer service, tips will go to the Special Olympics.

Cops and Lobsters is a yearly fundraiser by the Sheriff's Department and Police to help pay for athletes who compete in the Special Olympic games each year.

"Our motto is protect and serve and we've been protecting all day so we're out here and we're actually going to serve," says Melody McKay, a Smith County Sheriff's Deputy.   "We're going to make sure you have tea and biscuits and if you want more tartar sauce we'll get that for you. We're going to do whatever it takes to get a tip to support our kids for Special Olympics."

If you want your local officers to serve you dinner, Cops and Lobsters continues Friday from five to nine p.m.  It's at the Red Lobster located at 1500 WSW Loop 323.
