An East Texas woman is found dead inside a home. Now, authorities are trying to determine where she might have been killed. The Smith County Sheriff's Department says it received a call around 9:40 a.m., Saturday, that a woman had been killed in the 400 Block of Princess Place. That's the Wellington Place subdivision located just west of Tyler. Deputies found Jana Shearer, 21 dead inside a home, but say they do not believe the murder took place there. Deputies also say they are not sure how Shearer was killed, but say she did show signs of blunt force trauma to the head.
When sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene Saturday morning, they say they found Chris McCuin, 25 inside the home. They took McCuin into custody for questioning, but when they did the sheriff's department says McCuin kicked out the deputy car window. McCuin was then arrested and charged with obstruction and retaliation. The sheriff's department says McCuin now faces capital murder charges. Those that know McCuin tell KLTV 7 the house belonged to McCuin's mother, and the victim may have been his girlfriend. An autopsy has been ordered on Shearer.
