Jordan's King Abdullah (ahb-DUH'-luh) the Second has called on Christians and Muslims to unify their efforts to highlight the plight of Palestinians.

That was his message during a meeting yesterday with U-S church leaders. Abdullah told a delegation from the U-S National Council of Churches that their help was necessary to attract the attention to what he called the "human tragedy" in the West Bank.

The delegation is visiting Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinian territories. The group's visit came at the invitation of the Middle East Council of Churches and Jerusalem church leaders.

The National Council of Churches comprises 36 Protestant, Anglican and Orthodox denominations across the U-S.
