A Carthage man convicted of murder may have to spend life in jail after all.
The life sentence for Bernie Tiede was overturned two years ago by the 12th District Court of Appeals. That court said mistakes were made in the punishment phase of the trial.
Last week, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals sent the case back to the District Court saying those mistakes did not affect Tiede's defense.
Tiede was convicted in 1997 for the murder of eighty one year old Marjorie Nugent.
