Arrest In Hit And Run

The Marshall Police Department has just announced an arrest in the hit-and-run accident on December 15, seriously injuring 14 year old Kadijah Spears. The accident happened about 12:43 am near the intersection of Poplar and Jefferson Ave. in Marshall, when Spears was struck by an unidentified motorist. Spears was taken to a hospital in Shreveport after suffering serious injuries. The driver allegedly stopped near the accident, looked at the damage to the vehicle and then drove off.
An intensive investigation was launched by the Traffic Division of the Marshall Police Department and by coordinating information on similar vehicles which had been previously stopped within the City of Marshall; officers were able to narrow their search to several vehicles of possible interest.
On December 22, 2007, Sergeant Andrew Nixon of the Traffic Division was in the area where one of the suspect vehicles was registered when the vehicle pulled up next to him at an intersection. Sergeant Nixon executed a traffic stop and subsequently arrested Charles Ray Dixon, for No Driver's License and Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility. As a result of this arrest, the vehicle was impounded and after Dixon provided a waiver to search the vehicle, evidence was found indicating the vehicle was the one involved in the hit-and-run of Spears.  Upon being confronted with this evidence and other evidence left at the scene of the accident which matched the vehicle, Dixon provided a selfincriminating statement identifying himself as the driver of the vehicle.
Dixon was additionally charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid /Serious Bodily Injury which is a 3rd Degree Felony punishable by a 2-10 year sentence and a $10,000 fine.
Dixon was booked into the Harrison County Jail on these charges. This matter will be presented to a Harrison County Grand Jury in the near future.
