Fire Quickly Destroys Home On FM 14

A fire burns a nearly century-old home, and the father and son who lived there lost everything they owned but they're all right.

The fire started before 4 p.m. at the home on FM 14. That's just north of Loop 323 in Tyler. Investigators believe it was a wood-burning stove that was the source of the flames. Neither resident was inside the home when it started, they were nearby, and passersby called 9-1-1.

When the first crews arrived at the scene, there was little that could be done.

Assistant Smith County Fire Marshal Oren Hale said that when crews arrived on the scene, heat was so intense they realized they should have parked their vehicles on the other side of FM 14.

The homeowners were not insured.
