Thieves Steal Washers and Dryers From Two New Habitat For Humanity Homes
Victoria Escalona was just days away from moving into her new Habitat for Humanity home until someone kicked down her door and stole her washer and dryer. I can tell they cut it with a knife, " said Escalona. The thieves also stole a washer and dryer from the new habitat home across the street. And now both families who were supposed to move into their homes this weekend have to make a change of plans. "I feel hurt, you know we're struggling just like everybody else and then they go and do this to a house that has never been lived in before," said Escalona. "We're estimating it was about an hour before the security systems were installed that the homes were burglarized," said Ingrid Johnson of the Longview Habitat for Humanity. "11 years where I lived I didn't have a washer and dryer. I was going to the laundry matt and then I got this home and we were all happy. I said, "look we get to wash clothes when we move in this weekend". Now I have to wait a while again," said Escalona. Despite the burglary Victoria says this is her home and she's here to stay. "We'll still get our washer and dryer and I'll still be able to wash clothes in my own house." Fortunately for Victoria and the other family there is good news. Whirlpool corporation heard about the problem and they are going to donate new washers and dryers for the homes.
