Pilgrim's Pride names interim CEO

The nation's largest chicken producer, Pilgrim's Pride, says its board has elected Chairman Lonnie Ken Pilgrim as interim president.

Pilgrim is a son of the East Texas company's co-founder and senior chairman Lonnie "Bo" Pilgrim. He is filling in due to the untimely death of Chief Executive O.B. Goolsby Jr. The Pittsburg-based company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that Pilgrim will stay in the position until it finds a permanent president and CEO.

The company said the board has formed a search committee to find a new CEO, but that no timeline has been set for a decision. Goolsby died Monday, two days after suffering a massive stroke during a hunting trip with customers in South Texas.

Pilgrim's Pride has about 55,000 employees and operates 38 poultry processing and 12 prepared-foods facilities mostly across the South and in Mexico and Puerto Rico. The company sells chicken to retailers, foodservice distributors and restaurants.
