East Texas Soldier Surprises Family With Early Homecoming

For more than twenty years, it has been a Horlander Family tradition.  "We didn't think we were going to be able to do it, this year, simply because he wasn't supposed to be here, until the 21st," said Steve Horlander.  But thanks to a very welcomed surprise, this year will not be any different.

That's because his 26-year-old son, Marine Corporal Benjamin Horlander who has spent the last nine months serving in Iraq--decided this:"I decided to give 'em a little fib, and come in about a week prior," said Benjamin Horlander.  It was a little white lie, all in the name of a happy holiday.

"I walked inside and she was sewing, and [I] just kind of tapped her on the shoulder, and she jumped out of her skin," he said describing how he surprised his wife, Lisa.   "

I had just convinced myself that he was not coming home, and I looked up, and there he was," she said.

"I was on the computer, and I felt this tap on my shoulder, and I turned around, and there he was," said Benjamin's mother, Jane Horlander, who also got the unbelievable surprise.

Ben was back, and in the nick of time.  This Friday, Ben and Lisa will celebrate their second wedding anniversary.  And their little boy, Asher, will be a year old on the same day.  It's a chance for more precious moments.

"It's so nice to just enjoy the time you have because it's more precious," said Lisa.  And it's a chance for this family's Christmas to be a little merrier.
