Drugs Resembling Icebreakers Candy Here In East Texas

Outside of a Tyler home is three surveillance cameras. Tyler police said the man inside used them in his business, selling drugs. Inside the house, a Swat Team from the Tyler Police Department arrest 20 year old Texas College student Ethan Jones. We were there as they brought out three guns, including an assault rifle, hundreds of dollars in cash and several blue packets of crack cocaine.

"It certainly adds some validity to your story that you ran the other day as far as being careful," said Officer Don Martin with the Tyler Police Department. "Could this person tell their parents, 'Hey this is just Icebreaker candy, when in fact it is the crack cocaine?'"

We told you earlier this week about Icebreakers, a breath mint candy sold here in East Texas. It has blue, see-through packaging and is similar enough to illegal drug packaging that a parent might not be able to tell the difference at first glance. This is what East Texans said when we showed them Icebreakers.

"My kids would probably eat that if it's candy, without even thinking," said Becky Spenla.  "My kids love candy.

"Then they come along later and something is packaged like that, that isn't candy but they think it is," said Sheri Frey.

Tyler police told us to not just look for blue. They have seen these little bags in all different colors.

"I would say anything that looks possibly like crack cocaine, depending on any colored package, the adult needs to look a little bit closer," said Officer Martin.
