Quitman Case Investigated As Double Homicide

New developments in the case of an East Texas mother and her teenage son found dead inside an East Texas home.

We've learned this case is now being investigated as a double homicide. Wood County authorities confirmed that with us, and said they have no evidence that this was a murder-suicide as you may have heard speculated.

Tuesday morning, 35 year old Nichole Payne and 16 year old Austin Taylor Wages, a junior at Quitman High school, were found shot in separate rooms inside their Quitman home.

We learned there was no evidence of forced entry in the home. The autopsies and forensic tests are expected to give more clues into who may have killed this mother and son. But Wood County authorities said no one has been ruled out as a suspect.

"At this time there is no evidence to establish any kind of motive. We are interviewing family, friends and acquaintances to try to establish any kind of motive or what might have taken place," said Wood County Sheriff Dwaine Daugherty.

Nichole's husband Jason called 911 after finding the bodies.

"He was interviewed that evening. He has not been ruled as a suspect," said Sheriff Daugherty.

Two of those interviewed were the couple's two young children, one of whom Jason said was with him when he discovered the bodies. Earlier this week the children were in CPS custody, but have since been released to other family members.

Memorial services have been set for Monday, December 17th at 10 a.m. for Austin Taylor Wages and at 11 a.m. for Nichole Payne. Both are at Lowe's Funeral home in Quitman.
