Police Search For Robber Who Killed An East Texas Pawn Shop Worker

An early morning shooting in Longview leaves one East Texas man dead tonight. The shooting happened outside the Cash America pawn shop at 1709 South High street shortly after 8a.m. Monday morning. Longview police say Melvin Brad Mitchell, 56 of Longview was shot and killed by a robber. KLTV 7's LaKecia Shockley has the story tonight.

It was a scene no one expected to see. "Brad Mitchell", an assistant manger was shot and robbed outside of his vehicle on his way to the bank to make a deposit. "You have not only employees who are hurting over the tragedy, you have scared employees who are wondering is this person going to come back," said Yolanda Walker, director of public affairs for Cash America. Mitchell's brother W. D. Mitchell says for years Brad was an avid Longview Jaycee member who earned countless awards and was an all around East Texas guy. "He was just a typical red headed, red neck from East Texas. He was pretty well set in his ways. If he liked you-- you had a friend for life," said Mitchell. The death of Mitchell not only hits his family hard but customers of Cash America who knew him. "He was a humble, peaceful, nice sweet man. He never would bother anybody. I'm sure the person that robbed him, if they would have asked him for it, he would have gave it to him,"said Vickie Jackson. While police are still looking for the robber who shot Mitchell, Cash America pawn shop is offering a $20,000 dollar reward for the arrest and indictment of the suspect. "We are hoping that somebody out there has seen something, will come forward, and will turn this person in because, this person needs to be off the streets," said Walker. As for Mitchell's family they hope the reward will hopefully bring some answers to the death of a brother who will truly be missed.
