Thailand Dancers Brings Moves & Grooves To East Texas

Their costumes are colorful, their moves are smooth, and they've traveled half way around the world to perform right here in East Texas. KLTV 7's LaKecia Shockley has the story of some of the most youngest and talented Thailand dancers, who're sharing their culture one "groove" at a time.

With acrobatic moves, it's no wonder East Texas student can't keep their eyes off these Thailand dancers, who've made their way to East Texas for a cultural exchange. "I'm proud that I can come and exchange the Thailand culture dance with the students here,"said Ya, a Thailand dancer. Kenneth Fitzgerald is the president of the Hallsville Rotary club and says he brought the Thai dancers to East Texas so they could share their culture while learing aspects of American culture. "It brings the opportunity for the students to see something beyond their home town and beyond their country," said Fitzgerald. The Thailand dancers range from 8 to 13 years old, performing everything from dance -drama to singing. And for East Texas students, it's a vision into a whole new world. "It gives them a chance to imagine and see something that excites them-- that thrills their senses," said Fitzgerald. East Texas students aren't the only ones learning a new culture the Thailand dancers are also making the most of their East Texas experience. "When I  think about Texas I think about cowboys and horses. I'm really glad I got to experience riding on a horse,"said Ya. Whether it's horses for dancers or funny acting for students, Thailand dancers say they're glad to be on U.S. soil and are sure to come back to East Texas.
