Planet Funk Academy Brings Hip-Hop To East Texas

Looks like the Grinch is at it again. And this time, he's stealing "Hip-Hop"."The Grinch who stole hip-hop" is a new, spin-off urban dance production. And it's being performed right here in East Texas.

KLTV 7's LaKecia Shockley takes a closer look at the Houston based dance academy that's incorporating Hip Hop into a Christmas classic one beat at a time.

They're cool, they're hip, and they're bringing lots of spins, pops, and hops to East Texas. "East Texans would love this show because it's crazy, it's zany! It's over the top and it's diversified showing all kind of dance styles from different eras," said Planet Funk creator, Shawn Welling. With a story line about how a Grinch tried to still hip hop, this performance not only incorporates unique and up-beat dance moves but, it also portrays a lot of character. "In the show your hearts going to move because you see the character. I think in this show you relate to the characters and, part of you comes out in each individual character on stage," said Welling. "It inspires a lot of other people. I take dance also so, it's very inspiring  to me to be this young and see them still dancing," said Avery Curtis. "I really liked it! I really enjoyed the people! They all had great personalities,"said Spring Hill senior Chris Smith. From M. C. Hammer dances to Michael Jackson dances-- the Planet Funk dancers are definitely too legit to quit. "All of us are good dancers but, more so we love to entertain people and we want to entertain every single person sitting in every seat,"said choreographer Liz Hewett. It's no doubt that "The Grinch Who Stole Hip-Hop" is a performance that East Texans are sure to enjoy!
