East Texas Navy Reserve Veterans Reunite

Some special East Texas veterans were reunited with their fellow servicemen Saturday.  East Texas Navy Reserve veterans enjoyed good company and food at their 8th annual reunion in Tyler.  Veterans said it's not only a great chance to maintain friendships and keep memories alive, but to remember those friends and comrades who are no longer here.

"It brings back a lot of good memories about all the wonderful people that have served this country," said Navy Reserve Veteran John Hanisee.  "I think about all the good people that aren't here anymore that served this country, and it brings back a lot of memories of why I love the navy so much."

"Today is pretty much just fun," said retired Navy Captain Greg Gilliland.  "We're going to have fun and meet a lot of old shipmates we haven't seen in a year or two because not everyone could make it last year.  We'll all swap a few sea stories."  The event has been held every year since 1998, when the old Navy Reserve Center closed in Tyler.
