Pets Take to Tyler Park for a Good Cause

Man's best friend took center stage in Tyler Saturday at the Humane Society of Smith County's Fourth Annual Pets in the Park.

The event is the humane society's main fund raiser each year, and it educates pet owners and prospective owners on their cause.

"It raises awareness about the humane society as well as it also raise funds for us," said Gayle Helms with the humane society. "We sell tee-shirts here. We have sponsors to support us as well as we have donation jars around the park so it's just a real fun time for the whole family to come out and have fun."

Pets of all shapes and sizes were escorted to Bergfeld Park by their proud owners. Some of the animals even competed in contests like "Most Beautiful Pet", "Best Pet Trick" and the ever-popular "Who Looks Most Like Their Pet" contest.

The humane society estimates some 1500 East Texans treated their pets to a day in the park. If If you'd like to donate to the humane society or adopt a pet, you can call the humane society at    597-2471.
