Christmas Tree Shopping: A Priceless Family Tradition

The Ethridge family of Whitehouse came to "Plantation Pines Christmas Tree Farm" in Tyler to shop for that perfect pine. After a unanimous decision, it was time to take their new Christmas tree home

"We are going to light it up and decorate it and enjoy some hot chocolate," said Holly Ethridge.

The owner of the Plantation Pines Farm said this year's crop has stood strong through some very unpredictable, East Texas weather.

"The trees are a little bit stressed right now," said Nick Wiggins, owner of Plantation Pines Christmas Tree Farm.  "We're recommending that people really make sure they water the trees, because they had a lot of rain then went to no rain. But they're going to be fine."

The price of trees is up a little this year due to higher fuel costs, but Plantation Pines says it's not slowing down business.

"We raised our prices just a little," said Wiggins.  "We've got to move up a little every year but not enough to compensate for our fuel costs here on the farm."

Wiggins estimated an increase of about 3 dollars a tree. Yet it's not much more for those looking for quality time with loved ones over the holidays.

"This is special for us because we have our family with us today," said Ethridge. "We thought it would be a good thing to do together."

Family traditions rooted deep in East Texas this holiday season.
