All Hail The Kings (Academy)!

In Tyler, Lee and J.T. are usually the talks of the town when it comes to football.

But, there is a relatively new king in town and they have earned a trip to the state championship game.

It is the six-man football team of Kings Academy. After just three years of existence, they have earned a state title game berth.

For those not familiar with six-man football, it is played on a field 80 yards long and 40 yards wide. Three players are on the line and three in the back field. Every player can touch the ball.

The players for Kings Academy home school most days of the week, and the chance to go to state in a team sport is a big accomplishment.

"Oh it's huge," said running back Josh Johnson. "Back in the summer, I was talking to my dad about the opportunity we've had to play, I mean just to play football much less get to the state championship game you can't even describe it."

"Only God can do something like that," said wide receiver Jamel Bell. "Just playing six-man football and going to state. It's God. It's by God's grace that we're doing this."

"The excitements in the air and they know how big of a game it is," head coach Terry Parker said. "I don't think we're going to have any problem getting ready for the game."

Kings Academy will play San Angelo TLC this Saturday for the Christian School Athletic Fellowship Division II title this Saturday. Game time is at 12:30 p.m. in Aledo.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
