Commissioners Discuss Failed Jail Bond

For the first time, Smith County Commissioner's discussed the jail bond package that voters rejected earlier this month.

Monday the court said they want to determine what the citizens of Smith County want and are willing to approve.

"I do know after this last bond election the citizens are bound and determined that we should do something that is standard," Precinct 1 Commissioner JoAnn Hampton. "They want a feasible approach and they are not going to accept anything else."

"The core of this plan needs to be solid" said Precinct 2 Commissioner Bobby Van Ness. "The infrastructure for this building for future growth still needs to be included in this plan so that we do grow over the year we are going to have the capacity to feed these prisoner, house their personal effects, and to do the laundry. That is the basic."

Commissioner's decided to have two members of the court work on a statement for their course of action.
