Two Alarm Fire in Downtown Tyler

Shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday, Tyler Firefighters were called to a two alarm blaze at North Broadway and Line at the old F&D Mercantile building. The building is adjacent to the Tyler Candle Factory and was being renovated to build new downtown lofts.

Passersby called 911 around 8:22 pm and reported seeing huge flames bellowing from the warehouse. The building was engulfed in seconds. Firefighters believed two homeless people who usually slept in the building may have been inside. Investigators say they saw someone run out of the building but none of that information has been confirmed.

Firefighters could only battle the flames from outside because the blaze was too ferocious. At one point they feared the building was going to collapse but the structure remained intact. At least 8 fire trucks were on the scene.
