Proud Of East Texas: Gerald Hunt

After driving trucks across America for twenty years, Gerald Hunt signed on to be a contract driver in Iraq.  Little did he know, he would face death every day as he drove trucks in convoys across Iraq.  IED's, improvised explosive devices, were constant threats.  His convoy was hit by IED's 100 out of the 123 times he made trips.  Fortunately, his truck was never hit by an IED, although it was hit by numerous bullets.

Hunt is thankful to have made it through his year of driving trucks in Iraq alive.  After returning home, Hunt wrote the book "The Kill Zone," so that people would know what dangers both the military and civilians faced in our efforts to help the Iraqi people.  "The Kill Zone" is available at the Texas Store in Bullard, at Barnes and Noble in Tyler and online at

Joan Hallmark, Reporting.
