Ore City Students Pay Tribute To Classmate

He was killed while riding his bike. An East Texas school is coming together to honor the life of 11-year-old Juan Dominguez. Dominguez was riding his bike on East Main street in Ore City when he was struck by two vehicles. Today, Juan's Ore City fifth grader classmates paid tribute to a boy who they say meant so much. KLTV 7'S LaKecia Shockley has the story.

Notes, drawings, and messages are just a few ways the classmates of Juan Dominguez are remembering the guy they say lit up the school. "Juan was just fun loving! You can kind of tell one of the posters in the hallway reads "cool" and that was Juan--Juan was cool," said Ore City Elementary principal Claire Koonce.

In memory of Juan his school decided to memorialize his locker and wear buttons in his honor.   "They've made some paper tear drops that helps them understand that this is a process. Some of them made posters and we have a memory box where the students have made cards for the Dominguez family,"said Koonce. Juan was the youngest of ten siblings and his family says he was the life of the party. "He was his own individual person. He could put the P in "Party", says Juan's aunt Jo Dominguez. "He'd always come and make us laugh. He was definitely a joker. He'd come in my room and look at himself in the mirror and say, "I'm hot--I'm really hot".  I'd just laugh at him and say you're so full of yourself," said Juan's sister Marisol Dominguez. It's no doubt that Juan was a true charmer that will not only be missed by his family but his classmates who will carry him with them. "It means a lot, because it lets us know that everybody's there and that everybody cares," said Marisol.

Cares that are a true blessing to the Dominguez family and that they're grateful to have. Funeral services for Juan Dominguez will be held Saturday at 3 pm at Saint Mathews Catholic Church in Longview. There will also be a candlelight vigil held in the Ore City schools parking lot Saturday night at 7pm. The National Bank of Daingerfield has set up a "Juan Dominguez Memorial Fund". You can make donations at the Daingerfield and Ore City branches.
