M.A.DD Sends Out Strong Warning For The Holidays

Officials say more fatal crashes are reported between Thanksgiving and New Years than any other time of the year. That's why Mothers Against Drunk Driving, or MADD of East Texas, holds their annual awareness campaign "Tie One On For Safety."

In Tyler Thursday, local law enforcement officers were honored for their efforts to crack down on underage drinking and drunk driving. Officials say nearly 13,000 people are killed in alcohol-related crashes during the holidays.

"Have fun, have a great time, and enjoy your holiday," said Kim Higgins with MADD of East Texas. "When you get in the car though, drive safe, drive sober, buckle up and make it where you're going."

This campaign encourages drivers to tie a M.A.DD red ribbon on their cars as a reminder to drive safe and sober.
