Police say sexual assault may have been the motive of a man who broke into a Tyler apartment Monday morning.
It happened at an apartment on the 5200 block of Hollytree in South Tyler around 1 a.m.
After kicking in the door, police say the burglar hit and beat the female resident and attempted to remove her clothing. The suspect also demanded the victim give him her purse and money.
At one point, the intruder let the victim go, so he could close the door. The woman quickly dialed 911.
She hung up the phone when the burglar returned. Tyler police were able to trace the call, and called the apartment back.
The suspect fled after seeing the police department's number on the caller I.D. The victim was treated at East Texas Medical Center for bruises and scratches...and was released Monday.
The man is desribed as a black male, who stands 6'2 and weighs 180 pounds.
