Old Hobby Gets New Life At Whitehouse Track

Just six months old their is a hot new attraction in Whitehouse.

It is bringing out boy and girls, men and women, the young and the old.

It's a radio controlled car race track, a throwback to an old hobby, when youngsters spent hours fine tuning their cars for a race. The cars are small but they fulfill that big need for speed.

"It's pretty fun, I don't really know how to explain it," said Bullard eighth grader Jesse Bell. "It's the most fun that I've had."

"Radio controlled cars have been around for probably twenty years," said RCC enthusiast David Barry. "

The facility was built after the cold weather became too much for RCC fans and their temporary home closed down.

"We actually started in a parking lot," David explained. "The guys came in and put in a really nice, first class RC facility with special carpet and transponder systems."

"I think the youngest driver we have is about six or seven and the oldest driver, I'm not going to say who, but he is over 60," David said. "I've been involved with motor sports since I was young, from slot cars to motorcycles. I'm too old now to do the physical stuff and this is a lot easier."

Family time was one important value each driver shared. Fathers and sons, fathers and daughters, even moms and daughters come out to the track to participate.

"It will be something I do for the rest of my life," Jesse said.

The track is behind Roquemore's Hardware off of Highway 110 in Whitehouse and races are held every Saturday and Tuesday night. There is an entry fee of $10.
