Teachers and Colleagues Remember The Life Of A Dedicated Rains ISD Teacher

Teachers, administrators and students leaned on each other for strength and encouragement, Tuesday, remembering the educator who, they said helped many people at Rains ISD.  Outside the school, flags were at half-staff.  And inside, colleagues remembered Lela Fisher, a Rains High School faculty member for 18 years.

Those who knew her said she was a dedicated professional and role model--a confidant who will truly be missed.

"I loved her," said Janet Samples, one of Fisher's fellow teachers.  Samples said after working with Fisher for 14 years, she came to know her as a good friend.

"She always set a good example, and she was always there to give advice," said Cora Cooper, a senior at Rains.

Superintendent David Seago said whatever task Fisher took on, she always completed with an exceptional level of professionalism.  "When you lose someone of that quality that's been with you that long [and] that is loved by students and fellow staff members as well, it touches your heart," he said.

A scholarship fund has been created in Lela Fisher's name.  You can send donations to Rains ISD at P.O. Box 247, Emory, TX 75440.  The fund will be used to provide scholarships to college- bound students, something administrators said Fisher was passionate about.

Visitation for Lela Fisher is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro from 6 to 8 pm.  Funeral services will be held at the same location, Thursday at 3 pm.
