Upset Residents Over Utility Bill Rate Increase

Their water bills went up nearly 50%, but some East Texans aren't taking it lying down. Monarch Utility Water raised their rates for nearly 6,000 customers in the Lake Palestine area for water and sewer services. Residents are protesting the rate hike and are now asking for a hearing by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. However that process could take up to two years.

At a meeting on Monday night, State Senator Robert Nichols told residents he is pushing legislation to halt the rate from taking effect until the TCEQ makes a decision.
