East Texans Honor Past & Present Soilders

East Texas veterans were honored in Longview Today. Veterans were recognized by citizens, community leaders, and a special East Texas singer who shows gratitude through song. KLTV 7's LaKecia Shockley has the story.  

Some veterans have been in the military all their lives. "I spent 20 years in the Army, then I taught ROTC 16 years in Shreveport. After that, I served 11 years in the Texas State Guard,"said William Malone, a WWII veteran.  Every soldier, past and present, man and woman, is to be praised for their service. "The soldiers that are fighting Today-- they don't mine dying for their country," said William Perkins. "These soldiers stood up and said, "I'll live...I'll die..." to give everybody else the privilege to live," said Penny Pemberton. "These proud veterans are special because without them where would I be?  Thanks to them, I can stand without fear because the freedoms they gave to me,"said Leward LeFleur. As East Texans saluted veterans, veterans saluted East Texas for showing their appreaciation. "It feels great to be honored. It's heart warming, it brings tears to your eyes. I'm proud to have served our country," said Harry Barnes, a Vietnam veteran.

Texas singer Shelby Downing, who sung at Today's veteran service, was also honored  for her support of all veterans.
