Bob Moore's leadership and personal courage in World War Two earned him the Silver Star and the Bronze Star, as well as a special medal from the King of Belgium. The coveted Stars were given for leading a patrol that destroyed 22 enemy bunkers, two mortar positions and an ammunition dump, as well as the capture of 13 German soldiers.
Moore also helped free King Leopold of Belgium and his family who were held by German SS troops. He was awarded a medal by the Belgium Government and honored later by the Kings' son and grandson, who succeeded him.
