Parents Re-Think Christmas Lists In Wake Of Toy Recalls

The countdown is on to the holidays, and that means it's time to shop. But this year parents may be wondering what's safe to buy for their kids, since so many toys have been recalled.

Millions of toys have been recalled. With Christmas just around the corner we wanted to see if East Texas parents are changing their shopping habits."

"It's sad that you have to stay away from a lot of good toys that they actually want," said Heather Mink, of Whitehouse.  "My oldest was already looking at the new one, the Curious George."

Mink has had to take several recalled toys away from her children. She said it's made her re-think what she buys.

"I am looking at some other things, more books and puzzles, which is probably what they need anyway."

Other moms are just steering clear of toys altogether.

"I prefer art," said Lindsay Weatherford.  "My daughter enjoys coloring and things more so than toys. Anything that's sensory that she can learn through and not just play with."

With the biggest shopping day of the year just weeks away, parents are making out their shopping lists with caution, and thinking outside the box, when it comes to gifts for their children.

"You think it's safe and then something off the wall happens and it's not," said Weatherford.

"No matter how much they want them I just don't want to take the chance that toy could be recalled," said Mink.

We have several lists of recalled toys here on our web site. Click on "Know More on 7" and find "Know More on recalls."
