Breakthrough Cardiac Procedure Here In East Texas

A Mother Frances patient is out of the hospital only 36 hours after having heart bypass surgery. Dr. William Turner, Junior performed the surgery on a 62-year-old patient using a robot. The entire bypass is done endoscopically through only four small holes between the ribs. The patient's chest does not need to be fully opened, allowing the patient to be released just a day and a half after surgery.

"With this operation there is minimal, if any disruption of the chest wall. What that translates into is much less pain and much less discomfort to the patient, but also a greatly diminished recovery time and much more rapid return to regular activity," says Dr. Turner.

Recovery time after a traditional bypass surgery without the robotic system can take anywhere from six to eight weeks.
