South Broadway Robberies Have Police And Residents On Alert

Belinda Foust said she will definitely be more vigilant, keeping her eyes on the look out.  "It scares me," she said.

Just yesterday, a woman outside Boren Scott Title on South Broadway was getting into her car when she was approached by a man with a gun and robbed.   And now Tyler police are looking into the incident.

"We are investigating that to see if there is any connection between the robbery last night, and other robberies that have occurred," said Officer Don Martin with the Tyler Police Department.

The robbery is just the latest of a string of robberies, all within the last several weeks and along the same stretch of South Broadway.  One woman was robbed at Shogun, and another woman was robbed right down the street at Bank of America.  The incidents--each similar--have caught the police's attention.

"At this point in time, we haven't made a connection, but we're certainly looking into [them] to see if there is any connection," said Martin.  The robberies happen early in the evening and primarily are in South Tyler, Martin said.

Police are also investigating who is responsible.  The suspects described in each case were 5'7" in height, black males, weighing about 170lbs.  Each suspect also robbed the different women with a low caliber handgun.   The robberies have now prompted a warning from police.

"If there's a person acting suspicious, they look out of place, then [residents] might want to think twice about, well do I need to get out of the car now," said Martin.

It's a message some residents are taking to heart.

"In this day and age you have to constantly be aware of your surroundings," said Mary Urban, a Tyler resident.  Tyler police advise residents to just be alert. They are still investigating the incidents and are looking at all the evidence to be sure there's a connection between the crimes.
