One local gym had a good turnout today, as they held a seminar on beating people up the right way.
Lone Star MMA Gym held classes Saturday in all sorts of combat sports. MMA stands for mixed martial arts and includes judo, kickboxing, ju jitsu, wrestling, and self defense. All of their students could come and sample the other disciplines, and experts were on hand to teach on the various forms of combat. For their students, learning how to take care of themselves means a lot to them.
"It's an adrenaline rush," MMA student Jeff Hammond explained. "It's not like anything I've ever had before. I played basketball growing up, and getting in the ring and knowing you're going to get hit, there's nothing like it. It's actually exciting."
"I have a lot more confidence, and I know I'm in better shape. Even when I was in high school, I'm in better shape now from training all the time and getting my body conditioned."
"I like getting to fight other people," eleven year-old judo student Megan Daviau laughed. "It's good technique for the real world."
