"Right Jail" Committee Calls Presser To "Set Record Straight"

They say they want to set the record straight.

The committee against the Smith County jail proposal held a news conference Thursday morning.

They're refuting the Tyler Chamber of Commerce's unanimous endorsement of the bond, saying there was not a membership vote.

We checked with the chamber, who says their board voted which is normal procedure. Each board member voted to support it.

The committee also says the City of Tyler has not endorsed the plan.  The city tells KLTV 7 it has not publicly taken a position either way and that should not be an indicator of their position on, what they consider, a county project.

The committee went on to say they have a lack of confidence in the commissioners' decision-making.

"I wish there was a proposal that was thoughtful, conservative, that was reasonable and that was sensible. And all the [commissioners] had to do was to present that type of plan and we wouldn't be here, but they didn't," says David Stein with the Citizens for the Right Jail Plan.

The final day of early voting is tomorrow then there's election day this Tuesday.

You can rely on KLTV 7 to have complete election results for you that evening.
