Emotional Impact Statement In Indecency with Child Case

Emotions run high in an East Texas courtroom during sentencing for an East Texas sex offender. Jaime Hines got a life sentence for indecency with a child and Thursday Hines' victim's mother confronted him.

"You don't care how much you have hurt or what you have taken from my beautiful daughter." The young victim's mother spoke of her daughter's strength and what it has been like living this horror, "As her mother for the very first time in her 13 years I cannot kiss this pain away. Believe me I have tried. It is agonizing for us both."

In June 2007 Jaime Hines took advantage of a family members friend in Troup.

"The defendant was indicted for touching the genitals and the breast," said Smith County Prosecutor Jason Parrish.

Because of Hine's criminal history he was tried for a first degree felony and faced anywhere from 5 years to life in prison. A jury sentenced him to life in prison.

"You did not break her. Because she has stood up to you for what you did to her and because of her awesome strength in doing this," said the victim's mother, "You won't ever have the chance to molest again."

"We feel like that life sentence did send a message to the community as well as other sexual offenders that this type of conduct just isn't tolerable in Smith County," said Parrish.

A message the victim's mother echoed.

"Mr. Hines I truly despise you with every fiber of my being. The only peace of mine I get is your life sentence and for that I thank the jury and the state from my heart," said the victim's mother.

Hines also has another sexual assault case pending against him.
