Texas College President Resigns

The President of Texas College has resigned and will leave Tyler at the end of the year.

Dr. Billy Hawkins has been at Texas College for seven years, and he will become the new president of Talladega College in Alabama.

In a statement, Hawkins said he has mixed emotions about leaving Texas College, but that he believes God has called him to another institution where his talents and abilities are needed.

"This experience for me is like raising a newborn baby.  T.C. has grown up over the past seven years and still has some growing.  When you have been the parent of something so precious, it is hard to walk away,"  Hawkins said.

Hawkins assumes the presidency of Talledega College Jan. 1, 2008.
