Pantry Raid Kicks-Off For Cross Town Rivals

It's one of the biggest rivalries in East Texas: John Tyler and Robert E Lee. Students at both began the 16th annual "Pantry Raid".

At Robert E Lee, students sorted through their goods received. Then at John Tyler they loaded up their 18-wheeler with canned goods that will go to the East Texas Food Bank.

Middle and elementary schools that feed into both schools have also helped in the fundraising drive.

"Our one goal in this pantry raid is to help those less fortunate than us and I know there are a lot of people who don't have as much as we have," said Angela Frost, the John Tyler chair.

"I just hope that all these cans can help families throughout East Texas, and we ask you to come on over and donate some cans," said Emma Cyrocki, the Robert E Lee Chair.

Both school are accepting donations until Friday.

The winner will be announced before the football game between the two schools Friday night.
