Petting Zoo Goes Up In Flames

An East Texas petting zoo goes up in flames, but thankfully none of the zoo's animals were hurt.

Investigators say the fire started Thursday afternoon when two kids noticed a propane blowtorch inside the barn. The kids were apparently playing with some kittens when they found the torch, ignited it, and then caught some hay on fire. Five kittens inside died, but none of the petting zoo's almost 100 exotic animals were there.

"We had just moved our animals to another area, we were getting a bigger area for them and we were very grateful that no animals were in here, they're like our children our babies so we're really happy that nothing happened like that," said Funny Farm Petting Zoo owner Jon Slater.

No people were injured. The barn is a total loss, but the owner does have insurance.
