New Elementary School Playground Opens

The school year started a few months ago, and some East Texas students didn't have a playground ... until now.

Jack Elementary in Tyler unveiled it's new playground Thursday.

School children played on the new equipment which included basketball and soccer goals. PTA fundraising and community partners made it possible.

"We celebrated the recess and the people who made it," said 1st grader Tate Rybacki. "We didn't have a playground and now we do. It makes recess a lot of fun."

"It is very important for the children to be able to play outside they are required to sit still and pay attention and concentrate very, very hard while they are in their classrooms. So for them to be able to get out here and move their bodies and get some of their energy out of their system it is a very important part of their day," said PTA President of Jack Elementary Lisa Preddy.
