Henderson County Shooting Pre-Trial Hearing

A court appearance for accused Henderson County gunman Randall Mays, who allegedly shot two Henderson County deputies in May.

Thursday afternoon Mays came to a justice center in Athens for a pretrial hearing. He is charged with two counts of capital murder and a count of attempted murder. Mays, who is being held in the Smith County jail for safety reasons, was brought to Athens for the hearing.

Mays appeared different than before -- clean shaven and with a haircut. Attorney's discussed evidence pertaining to what will be used in trial. Judge Carter Tarrance conditionally granted statements made by Mays both verbally and written.

In attendance at the hearing were the families of both of the victims, including Paul Habelt's wife and Tony Ogburn's son. Also Deputy Kevin Harris, who was injured in the incident, was there. The Judge also set two pretrial hearings, the next one in December. The trial was tentatively set to begin in Mid-March.
