East Texans Flock to Churches for Easter Celebrations

Several churches across East Texas held special services for their Easter Day celebrations on Sunday.

Green Acres church members woke at the crack of down to attend the church's annual prayer session at Cathedral in the Pines cemetary in Tyler.

Dr. David Dykes,of Green Acres says the sunrise get together is to commemorate that Christ rose before dawn.

Also with a non-traditional Easter service was Marvin United Methodist Church, which offered its Power Praise Celebrations in addition to traditional services this morning. The Power Praise celebration offered contemporary christian music, bag pipes and a more relazed atmosphere for guests.

Though Marvin United scheduled to have the event at Bergfeld Park, they moved it indoors because of dire weather reports.

In it's second year, Marvin United Methodist Church has held its Power Praise Easter celebration. Last year they had 600 people in attendance...compared to almost 750 people this year.
