Gilmer Holds Yamboree Parade

An annual parade that brings thousands of visitors to East Texas each year, was held in Gilmer Saturday. The 70th annual Yamboree Parade swept through downtown Gilmer Saturday afternoon.  There were more than 200 entries, making it one of the largest parades ever. Entries included everything from marching bands, to classic cars, to floats and even martial arts. Thousands lined the streets to take in the event, which draws visitors for many different reasons, but mostly for it's small town charm.

Another traditional contest, the Fiddlers Competition, was held as well.  Fiddlers from all over Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana came out to win honors at the Yamboree festival.  Contestants in all age brackets are judged on style and presentation, with the top four finishers in each age group getting prize money.  A full slate of Yamboree events will continue Sunday.
