Tyler Man Sentenced To Ten Years In Prison

Judge Louis Gohmert sentenced 23 year old Leon Bowens to 10 years in prison for burglary with an attempt to commit sexual assault.

The crime dates back to July when Bowens broke into a woman's home. Several witnesses testified today, including the victim, who said she knew Bowens prior to the attack.

Prosecutors were asking for a life sentence; believing the crime deserved more than ten years.

"The defendant took all precautions to try and hide his identity," says Assistant D.A. Jennifer Earls. "He wore a stocking over his cap, had gloves over his hands and broke intro the girls apartment. He didn't stop there but shoved a sock in her mouth and left her there bleeding."

Bowen will remain in Smith County Jail until he's moved within the Texas Department of Corrections.
